On Friday the 3rd March, Gillingham and Rainham MP Rehman Chishti visited St Margaret’s Junior School, Byron Primary School and Hedgehogs Preschool, as part of World Book Day.
At St Margaret’s, he met with local Beanstalk volunteer Elizabeth to find out about the fantastic difference that she and other volunteers were making by helping others learn to read.
At Byron Primary School and Hedgehogs Preschool, Rehman took the opportunity to read to children dressed as one of his favourite book characters, Harry Potter.
Rehman commenting afterwards:
“I thank all students and schools that took part in World Book Day. It was fantastic to see students enjoy reading and celebrating the occasion. I have to say I was very impressed by some of the amazing book characters the students had dressed up as.”
Rehman also thanked his two young nephews from Rainham Mark for letting him borrow their school jumper and tie!
