Rehman embarked on an ambitious trip to deepen ties between the UK and USA. Beginning in Arkansas, Rehman met with Congressman French Hill (@RepFrenchHill), where they discussed all aspects of the bilateral relationship on foreign policy, security and trade. Rehman congratulated Congressman Hill on his recent appointment as Vice Chairman of Treasury Select Committee.
Following this, Rehman met with Congressman Adrian Smith of Nebraska (@RepAdrianSmith), where he discussed parliamentary engagement, Free Trade Agreements, and collaboration opportunities between our respective local areas of Medway, Kent, and Nebraska.
Rehman then attended the International Religious Freedom Summit where he met with counterparts from around the globe. Representatives from Civil Society, NGOs, Policy makers all involved in advancing religious freedom for all. Here he met with key stakeholders advocating for religious freedom such as Ambassador Samuel Brownback (@SamuelBrownback), Nury Turkel (@nuryturkel) and Jeremy Barker (@Jaybark7).
Rehman then flew to Oklahoma where he had the pleasure of meeting with Kevin Stitt, Governor of Oklahoma. Rehman explored all aspects of collaboration with the Governor presenting the strengths and opportunities of Medway and how a partnership between Oklahoma and Kent is beneficial for all. This covered trade, business, higher education and energy. On a national level, the UK was the 6th largest export market for Oklahoma!
Invited to speak at the University of Oklahoma (UoO), Rehman had the pleasure of addressing outstanding students on contemporary politics, economics and how our the UK and USA work in lockstep to stand for freedom, liberty and rule of law. He then took questions from the inquisitive students in an excellent session. Rehman then met with members of the UoO Senior Leadership Team to explore opportunities for collaboration with Universities back home in Kent such as the University of Greenwich (@UniofGreenwich), University of Kent (@UniKent) and Canterbury Christchurch University (@CanterburyCCUni). Rehman was delightfully hosted by Senior Vice President and Provost André-Denis Wright and his team.
To wrap up the successful trip, Rehman head to Dallas, calling on Ross Perot Jr. and hearing about his visionary work with the Alliance Group. The group has created over 60,000 jobs across Texas. Rehman explored further collaboration between the UK and USA before heading back home to Gillingham and Rainham.
