The Football Association has announced that Rehman will be their new Parliamentary Fellow.
Previously Rehman was the Fellow for Sport England, and worked to raise awareness of sporting issues and participation in Parliament.
As the FA’s Fellow, Rehman will have the opportunity to champion football and learn about how the FA supports grassroot football and tackles discrimination within the game.
On Saturday (10 August 2013) events took place across the country to mark ‘Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day’ and, as part of the celebrations, Rehman was invited to AC Paulista FC in London to see a coaching session and tournament.
Sir Trevor Brooking, The FA’s Director of Football Development, said:
"It’s great to have our new Parliamentary Fellow Rehman on-board supporting Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day. This day has been created by The FA as part of our 150th anniversary celebrations to showcase the nation’s love for the game and the huge number of people who get involved in football every week, whether that’s playing, coaching, volunteering or refereeing. The day will shine a light on the sheer breadth of the nation’s favourite game and we hope it will encourage more people to get involved."
Following the event at AC Paulista FC, Rehman said:
"As someone who has a real passion for sport I am looking forward to working with The FA over the next two years. I was pleased to have the chance to attend one of the many events taking place today to mark Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day and see for myself some of the excellent work going on to support football’s grassroots."
